Over the last 2 years Mallory Park was in the news for all the wrong reasons. Arguments between the circuit, local residents, the land owner, BARC and the council were bitter and culminated in BARC closing the management company and it looked for a while as if the land could be developed for housing.

Late last year a new promoter was found, they have a history of bike racing and Monoposto Racing Club were invited to what may be the old car race of the year.

Non-championship races bring out different competitors and the previous days racing at Oulton meant that some regulars were not there and many others were not ideally geared.

Graham Read’s interesting bike engined Dallara secured pole and after dropping back off the line looked set for victory until a gearshift problem robbed him of a win. Kevan McLurg inherited the lead and stretched it to a comfortable win over Neil Harrison’s Dallara and Russ Giles’ Dallara. Neil had throttle problems meaning he couldn’t use full throttle.
