The UK’s largest ever single seater race was staged at the Silverstone Arena GP circuit on the 30th September and the 1st August, as one of the support races to the 2011 Britcar 24hr endurance race.

54 cars qualified which is the maximim grid capacity of the new Arena circuit.  Sadly the new Silverstone Wing pit complex was not used.

53 cars ultimately took to the grid for race 1.   Aaron Steele from MSV F3 Cup won both races, but a special mention must be made of Jeremy Timms’ whose rented Monoposto 2000 spec car finished 2nd both times.   This is worthy of mention because Monoposto cars run at 40mm ground clearance compared to 15mm.   The main effect of this is that the undercar aerodynamics provided by the flat floor and the diffuser does not work properly at the higher ride height, and to obtain the same levels of downforce these cars have to run more wing angle, which in turn creates more aerodynamic drag.

The weather was perfect for spectators, although this did result in heat haze problems for photographers!
