Noise complaints from the housing estates which surround the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, means the Grand Prix layout is only used a small number of times for race weekends. These tend to be reserved for the top level events such as the British Touring Cars and the Historic Festival, meaning the shorter Indy circuit gets used the most.
The drivers love the GP circuit, many saying it is amongst their favourite in the UK.
For the photographer it offers a lot of angles, and for those without the luxury of a media pass, most fences are only waist high. The challenges during summer are shadows – a lot of the circuit is tree-lined and the afternoon sun casts deep shadows across the circuit.
I was there covering the Monoposto and the F3 Cup races. Aaron Steele, Tristan Cliffe, Peter Venn, Nigel Davers and Olly Thorpe got double class wins, and Jason Timms and Adrian Wright shared a class win each.
